Serious Injury

We advocate for people injured in motor vehicle accidents, harmed by unsafe products, and damaged as a result of negligence.

Car accident deaths are on the decline in Texas

There is a reason to be joyful if you are a driver in Texas. Data published in the Houston Chronicle indicates the total number of deaths of Texas roadways has declined in recent years. The research shows that 3,722 people died on Texas roadways in 2018. This is lower than the total number of people who died while driving in 2017, which was 3,797. This results in a total drop of 2%.

While it is a hopeful sign, Texas still falls behind other states in terms of total deaths per capita. The Houston area is particularly precarious. In fact, it is one of the most dangerous urban areas for drivers in the country. It is up to every driver in the state to be as safe as possible to avoid any more car accident-related deaths

Additional decline in alcohol-related driving deaths

During that same period of time, the total number of traffic deaths where one driver was under the influence of alcohol declined by 0.7%. This was below the national average, which is 1.1%. Although the drop has officials encouraged, there is still much work to do. While driving drunk greatly increases the chances of being in an accident, other behaviors, such as speeding and texting, can pose an equal, if not greater, risk.

Steps to prevent collisions

All drivers can do their part to reduce the number of fatalities on Texas roadways by following some simple actions. Drivers should obey speed limits. While some interstates have speed limits that go up to 75 mph, it is critical to not go any faster than this. The faster the vehicle travels, the greater the impact it will have on the people inside if it collides with another object.

All drivers also need to put down their cellphones. Looking down at a phone for even a few seconds can result in a car accident. With everyone working together, fewer deaths can occur on Texas roadways in 2019 and beyond.
